    ABOUT DISTRICT COURT

"The separation of the Judiciary from the Executive was completed on 22 July 2013, and the Judiciary has been functioning independently since then. On 11 August 2013, the Office of the District and Sessions Judge, West Garo Hills District, Tura, was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and Hon'ble Mr. Justice T. Nanda Kumar Singh, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, in the presence of Hon'ble Mr. Justice S. R. Sen, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya.

Prior to the separation of the judiciary from the executive, judicial functions in West Garo Hills District were administered by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, with cases adjudicated by executive officers. The separation strengthened judicial independence and institutionalised a dedicated, professionaly trained judiciary by entrusting the administration of justice to judicial officers possessing specialised legal qualifications and judicial training, thereby promoting greater professionalism, consistency and efficiency in judicial proceedings."
